Notes from the Naturalist: Rhode Island Off the Beaten Track

Hazard Rocks

May is a beautiful month along our coast; and with the beaches still a little chilly, it is the perfect time to explore the hidden gems of southern Rhode Island.

We did a similar tour last fall and had a really good time. Traveling in our twelve-seat Mercedes-Benz van, we will take in sights including scenic mills, dramatic rock formations, lighthouses, lovely shoreline communities and beautiful beaches.Horseshoe Falls

Along the way we will disembark to explore various locations and enjoy box lunches at a scenic overlook. For such a small state Rhode Island has a wealth of beauty and tremendous history. What is really fun about this tour is that we focus on places that are a bit off the beaten track, and that we do it a bit off season so we can gain access to more places. This is a great opportunity to see places that many summer visitors never see.
