Weekapaug Inn is thrilled to welcome Ryan Robinson as its Senior Restaurant Manager and Sommelier. Ryan joined the Inn in December 2016 from Chandler’s Fine Steaks and Seafood in Boise, Idaho, where he served as Director of Wine.
Ryan is an Advanced Sommelier in the Court of Master Sommeliers, a decades-old organization that sets the standard for beverage knowledge and service in hotels and restaurants throughout the world. It offers a rigorous educational program that guides aspiring Masters through four increasingly difficult levels of coursework and testing, culminating in the Master Sommelier Diploma Examination.
According to the Court, only 25–30 percent of applicants pass the Advanced Sommelier Examination – the third exam in the four part series – illustrating Ryan’s commitment to furthering his education and intellectual prowess in the world of wine.
A Boise, Idaho native, Ryan’s interest in wine began over 15 years ago as a Lounge Manager on Lindband Expeditions, an outdoor adventure cruise liner focused on ecotourism. He went on to work for prominent restaurants throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Beverley’s at The Coeur d’Alene Resort and Masselow’s at the Northern Quest Resort and Casino, both AAA Four Diamond award recipients.
With nearly two decades of experience in the food and beverage industry, Ryan looks forward to revamping the Inn’s already impressive wine collection.
“My vision is to have wines that are varietally correct and show topicity to the region they are coming from,” he says. “I want the wine list to feature the very best from that region – great quality wines that you won’t find anywhere else.”
When he’s not tending to guests in The Restaurant, Ryan spends between 2-4 hours per day studying for the Master Sommelier examination. He hopes to become one of only 230 distinguished professionals worldwide to receive the title of Master Sommelier since the first exam was administered back in 1969.
