Rhode Island has such a diversity of places, and being the smallest state in the union they are all easy to reach. One of my favorite walks is around Trustom Pond Refuge – just fifteen minutes from the Inn. The lovely wide paths of this US Fish and Wildlife refuge cross rolling grasslands, meander through woodland glades and traverse marsh and babbling brook on raised boardwalks. Eventually the paths wind up at Trustom Pond, where from viewing platforms you are rewarded with big views of the pond and the barrier beach and, just beyond, the Atlantic Ocean. Trustom Pond is a wonderful place for birding as well as an easy and relaxing walk in the woods.
