Notes From the Naturalist: Bike Season

Light house

With spring at hand, we are once again activating our fleet of bikes for the season.

Weekapaug has some great rides, with my favorite being along the coast to Watch Hill – specifically, to the Watch Hill Lighthouse. Lighthouse Point is a long, narrow peninsula that extends into the sea and is surrounded by water. The light marks not only the tip of land, but a treacherous reef system that stretches southwest towards Orient Point and the north fork of Long Island.   The view encompasses 340-degrees of water, as well a three states close at hand. Connecticut is just three miles to the west; New York is represented by Fisher’s Island – two miles to the southwest; and, of course, you are standing in Rhode Island. Watch Hill also has a fun village to visit, a terrific ice cream shop to keep you peddling and, of course, our big sister Ocean House. Stay tuned for more information on the brand new, chain-free bicycles debuting later this spring at Weekapaug Inn!
